By hiring our firm, you are going to get someone who cares, as well as someone who is experienced in this area, and that is an important combination. It is not enough to hire someone who is experienced if they do not care. That might seem obvious, but that is not necessarily the case. I believe that is what sets us apart from other attorneys who I have had experience with and who I believe might not care as much as they should for the welfare of their client, not just for the “best result”. I firmly believe that our approach to practice is one that is client-focused and customer-service driven.
I had a mentor when I was still in law school and I was working as a summer associate at a law firm who gave a talk about how, as lawyers, we are in the customer service business and are not so different from, say, a plumber. I was offended because I thought of myself as professional from a top law school who was working as a summer associate at a top law firm in New York City, and how dare this partner compare me to a plumber. But after practicing, I realized that he was right! The service that we offer people is something that they need at a time in their life and is not too different from the service that a plumber offers somebody. If we do not give good customer service to our clients, they are not going to feel that they got what they paid for or that they had a successful divorce or that it was a fair outcome.
That attention to customer service is important. Many attorneys that I have come across do not listen, they do not return their client’s calls, they do not put themselves in the client’s shoes and understand that their client is facing a difficult situation. Many attorneys do not understand that their client is feeling lost, unsupported, and ignorant of the process and that simple customer service can make such a difference. Even an attorney who is experienced and has been doing family law for many years, I will not consider a good attorney if they are not giving that client the customer service that they deserve.
